VT is the most backwoods and country of the top VA publics. Cowboy boots are a fashion staple, and country music is everywhere. It’s in Blacksburg, after all, and their mascot is a Turkey. Conservative, depends on the kid, but the stadium did participate in the F Joe Biden trend, so there’s that.
Blacksburg and the surrounding county tend to vote majority democrat. On a map it may look like it’s in a sea of red, but that sea has very few actual people in it. It’s misleading in the same way the national electoral map shows a sea of red from Louisiana to Idaho. Lots of land but little population. OP, my best friend from college taught at a Blacksburg HS whole his wife got her PHD at VT (and was associate professor for a while before moving PA). No one would confuse him for a conservative and he really liked it there.
