The scene concept was believable and familiar if you've ever spent any time hanging out in your smallish hometown after moving away to a big city. Her friends are extra jaded and cynical about their lives, and their interest in the trainer is too intense -- it's meant to make you uncomfortable because it's so desperate and sad. And then when the trainer finds out she's from "the city" and becomes intensely obsessed. Again, it's over the top to the point of discomfort and that's why it's funny to me. People really are like that. And they may not be that intense in real life but it feels that way.

I feel like she's channeling the same sensibility of her old sketch comedy show (Inside Amy Schumer) but into a drama/dark comedy. It's different and I like it. And I"m not the biggest Amy Schumer fan -- I find her standup kind of middling. But I think she's onto something good here.[/quote]
