Eyeroll, for what?  The right wing used the Smollett case to push a disgusting narrative suggesting that hate crimes do not exist, that they are all hoaxes.  Complete lie.  Every year there are hundreds of very real hate crimes, with very real victims, and very real perpetrators.  Those kinds of lies need to be shut down.  Not eyerolled.

Actually, it is Smollet who pushed that narrative by his own actions, which is soooo interesting, because in order for him to be successful, he was banking on white America being outraged that a noose was hung and wring its hands over it.

^^Exactly this.  And what's *really* sad is that he was correct.  Remember all those outraged liberals, who completely fell for this disgusting stunt?  If anyone's to blame for casting doubt on some hate crimes, it's Jussie himself.

Liberals believed it, because sadly there ARE a lot of hate crimes that happen.  But unfortunately the Smollett case was just one dumb idiot trying to do some attention-seeking.

But the right wing has never believed it.  For years and years they denied that racism and hate crimes even exist.  Then Smollett happened, and they all said "See?  It's all fake!"  But the hate crimes continued and still continue today.  Meanwhile, dishonest grifters like Andy Ngo started to amplify one and only class of hate crime:  black on asian.  And then the right wing narrative shifted to "See?  Hate crimes DO exist but it's ALL BLACK PEOPLE!"

The entire narrative has been dishonest and toxic going back years.

And the right wing has done this, despite the fact that the FBI UCR is full of thousands of actual hate crimes.  Thousands EVERY YEAR.  Compared to the mere handful of hoaxes in the last 10 years.  The right wing has done this, despite the fact that on any given week one can find several incidents in the news, along with the arrests of the perpetrators - REAL hate crimes every single week.

Yes, Smollett is an idiotic attention seeking grifter who did a monumentally stupid thing.  But STOP with the heinously false narratives about how hate crimes are "hoaxes."[/quote]
