The I in BIPOC was separated to emphasize that, while many “indigenous” peoples in the United States are in fact the victims of white oppression and systemic white racism, they may nonetheless visibly appear as racially “white,” largely as a result of interracial relationships (voluntary and otherwise).[/quote]
