It’s a lovely story and I’m glad for your kid-I really am— but my kid with a decent gpa, fantastic SAT, rigorous coursework, national awards, leadership positions, excellent essay about an interesting but uncommon passion (excellent according to two teachers who read it, making almost no suggested edits), legacy status, and excellent recommendations did not get in to UVA ED. Or to a slightly less selective school EDII.

Just recently a man won $10 mill in the NY lottery for the second time. It’s exciting for him but doesn’t mean that is going to be repeated.

Sorry if this is too negative but your kid’s awesome success doesn’t really give me hope for the other reaches or even matches DS is waiting for RD. Luckily he also applied to several not so rejective schools so I’m sure he’ll get in somewhere and be successful.

Congrats to your kid for winning the lottery. I honestly mean it.
