What I don't understand is that a school like Northwestern is such an elite school. Some of the most popular and strong majors are communication, psychology, journalism, drama, etc. These are starting salary after getting a degree: Journalism - $43100 https://collegescorecard.ed.gov/school/?147767-Northwestern-University&fos_code=0904&fos_credential=3 Communication - $48041 https://collegescorecard.ed.gov/school/?147767-Northwestern-University&fos_code=0901&fos_credential=3 Psychology - $38,048 https://collegescorecard.ed.gov/school/?147767-Northwestern-University&fos_code=4201&fos_credential=3 Drama - $20,869 https://collegescorecard.ed.gov/school/?147767-Northwestern-University&fos_code=5005&fos_credential=3 These must be for rich people who seek prestige and don't care about money. Would any hard working tax paying middle class pay $300,000 for those degrees? Am I missing something?
It's not Northwestern that is producing the lower average salary---it's the degree type it self. However, NU has been top 3 in Journalism for over 40+ years! If you want to do journalism, it's the place to be---and the connections you will make are astounding. Those connections is how graduates make the big break in journalism/communications. Same for Drama/theater/Music----just take a look at all of the Hollywood talent that has come from NU. Yes---while many cannot afford that for a "low paying degree", there are plenty who can afford it as well as NU is a "meet financial need" school (and has been for decades). Also, it's NU, so many are double majoring/minoring in something that can be used to "fall back on", it's just something Cats do
