The Eid date is predicted a year in advance but may be adjusted based on lunar sightings. https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/whats-on/whats-on-news/when-eid-2022-expected-dates-22320072
Well, that surely creates a HOT MESS! We're trying to schedule a calendar and make decisions that affect thousands of kids --- but we have to wait to see what the moon looks like? This is absolutely stupid.
+1 This should absolutely not be something our schools revolve around if there is not even a fixed day that can be known in advance. Craziness.
Yeah I grew up celebrating Eid and I added that feedback on the last 2 years’ calendar surveys. I’ve always recalled that you had to wait for the official moon sighting to declare Eid so the date can shift.
Smacking my head…look, I’m Jewish and it’s somewhat stressful that the schools have this far been open on the High Holidays. But, in such a multicultural area, I have noted on previous surveys I think the answer has to be just not to recognize any religious holidays, kids should not be penalized for taking a day off and I think important school events should not be scheduled on those days - band concerts, entrance exams, graduation, and for HS students I think it would make sense not to allow tests on those days, at least unit tests, but otherwise they just need to get on with having school. This O day thing and days off for all these holidays is a mess.
