A good friends is having a wine and fondue birthday party when I'll be 10 weeks pregnant. DH and I decided not to tell anyone we're expecting until I'm 12 weeks. The party is at a sit down restaurant, so I can't simply not eat or drink. Should I just make an excuse as to why I can't go? Everyone will know something is up if I turn down both the wine AND the fondue (yes, the fondue will also have alcohol in it)...any other ideas?
The alcohol will have cooked down and only the flavor will remain. Stay home and don't go because it will be obvious immediately and guessing that you're pregnant will take away from the birthday person and his/her party.
No, there will still be some alcohol, but there is about 1 cup of wine starting out for a serving appropriate for 6 adults. I'm guessing with some (not all) of the alcohol cooked away and sharing the fondue, you'll consume the equivalent of 1 tsp or 1 TBS of wine. Not worth worrying about. The calcium from the cheese and the seretonins from the starch and the good company will be good for you and the baby. Enjoy, don't worry. (Stress is bad for you and the baby!)
