I have to admit I have not investigated McKinley as closely as I did Banneker (McKinley was just getting started when dd was applying to magnet schools) so I could be wrong about this.  But in my experience Banneker is highly regarded compared to McKinley. -- not necessarily on DCUM because a some white people on DCUM are uncomfortable with the idea of sending their kids to a school that is so heavily African-American but then they aren't sending their kids to McKinley either. DCUMers who send their kids to public schools are more likely to prefer School without Walls or to Wilson.

Personally I would go with Banneker.  If your child doesn't like it, then try a move to McKinley, Walls, or Wilson.  Good luck![/quote]
