It is true that Northeastern received over 50K EA applicants (they have been posting some statistics on social media sites for accepted students) and that is way up from prior years but I'm guessing that the rumor about them not reviewing all the applications is just that...a rumor. Why would an admissions office admit that? The explosion in applications is partly due to Northeastern becoming such a "hot" school but it's also not that different than a bunch of other schools (e.g., Michigan, Wisconsin, Pitt) that are seeing soaring applications for the reasons that the PP mentions...there are too many kids who are applying to 20+ schools.
Why is Northeastern becoming “hot” school? Is it location?
Location is one factor. Kids these days prefer schools in the cities. It's right in the middle of Boston but also has a nice campus unlike some of its peers such as Boston University or NYU which are also gaining popularity. Coop program which leads to great job placement. NEU ranks pretty high on all kinds of job placement and salary rankings. It has a good balance of all the right ingredients.
LOL! You learned your script well.
I am not necessarily hot on Northeastern, but this “script” makes sense. Families are wary of majors in basket-weaving and the coop program creates opportunities to graduate with valuable work experience. And you can’t beat Boston/Cambridge as a college student, especially when so many kids now want schools in/adjacent to cities rather than rural LACs.
Where have you seen this data reported?
