Maybe I’m more by myself around here than I thought on this but I know both vaccinated and unvaccinated kids/families who have gotten Omicron and it was mild all the way around. Everyone can spread it and kids are super low risk so if kids are young and healthy why does it matter if they get a COVID vaccine? We got our kids vaccinated to keep them from having to quarantine and deal with many of the rules but probably wouldn’t have if the rules were different. Are we really going to be the people who slap anti-whatever labels on others for asking questions and promoting balance in a constantly evolving situation? Yikes guys. Families need to make the best choices based on what that looks like for them and we should be giving space for that not moralizing and condemning people. This thread is disappointing.
Here's why it matters. Vaccinated people, including kids, are less likely to get Covid and - importantly - spread it to vulnerable family members or teachers and school staff. If teachers and school staff get Covid, it's disruptive even if their case is mild. They're missing school, subs are hard to find. So -- if kids are vaccinated, there will be fewer sick people, including teachers, which means less disruption to schools. And if your priority is keeping cools open and as normal as possible, then you should be in favor of getting as many students vaccinated as possible. That is why it matters.
As far as I'm aware, that's not true. Vaccinated or unvaccinated spread Covid at the same rate. The vaccine only protects the vaccinated person from the consequences. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/the-risk-of-vaccinated-covid-transmission-is-not-low/
No. There are way more cases of covid in unvaccinated people versus vaccinated people. https://www.vdh.virginia.gov/coronavirus/see-the-numbers/covid-19-in-virginia/covid-19-cases-by-vaccination-status/
