Crickets on here about ARL Showcase. Weather turned out to be not as bad as feared. It was cold, but mostly sunny both days and almost no wind. My kid’s team got in two highly competitive matches against MLSNext clubs and we didn’t have to fly to Florida.
Sure, you can get competitive matches without having to travel so far, but did you see the list of coaches for the Florida ECNL event? I think that is the difference and why teams go. https://tgs.totalglobalsports.com/public/collgecoachattending.aspx?eid=2412
The list of coaches means nothing. Did your kid contact any of these coaches before hand and create a relationship so the coach would come out and see him? Do you think coaches just show up and watch a game and look for kids to stand out? It doesn't happen that way. or at least it's very very rare. So let's say 5 coaches attended Arlington Showcase and your kid contacted one of them and that coach came out to see him. That is 100x better than going to Florida just to play in front of coaches not focused on your kid. Now if your kid is a superstar and contacted 20 of the coaches going to FL, then yes, FL would have been a better showcase.
Wonderful comment here! My DD is in her last year of club soccer. Over the years she played in many national showcase events and the coaches didn't just naturally find her like many think. They don't really come to randomly find talent. Yes, it happens, but that is not the norm and not the path I would recommend if a kid wants to play college soccer. They have to work sell themselves and recruit the schools, not the other way around. Coaches use the showcases for validation of what they have seen/heard/been told as they play against good competition. Getting yourself on their list is the key step. Once my DD starting contacting coaches, giving her schedule, academic info, advising of her interest in their school, etc. and asking them to come watch her play they showed up at the showcases to see her and the offers began to show up as well. Night and day difference in the approach.
