I have to force myself to eat vegetables. Now that my kid is back at college, I have gone a few days without one. I know they are so good for every health outcome...but they bring me no pleasure, compared to protein and carbs. You are all lucky to have the tastes you have (and I notice that many of you grew up with fresh veggies as children. We did not, perhaps due to cost?)
OP. Yes, I grew up with fresh fruit and veg. Shelling peas was a normal activity in early summer for me. DH, however, did not grow up with so many fresh fruits and veggies. He is from CO. Not sure why as his maternal grandparents were farmers when he was young. Even after we married, they had the most productive and awesome strawberry patch. I recall being there for the 4th of July celebration; that was when everyone gathered and watched the parade that went past their house. It was a great event; everyone brought food, they churned their own ice cream! The food was good. There was a fruit salad from cans. Of course, there was fresh corn and all types of potatoes and BBQ. So, I was there picking the strawberries and eating them. I grew up doing the same. My own grandparents had a strawberry patch. And nobody else was picking them nor eating them. DH's grandma said to take as many as you want, they will go to waste. There were over eight great-grandkids there at the time! My cousins and I would have fought a war over these strawberries, and they didn't care at all. I was young and thought nothing of it then, tbh! All I thought was: would it be weird if I showed up next weekend, so those strawberries don't rot.
