Definitely do all honors for all 4 core classes in middle school and see how it goes. My two Gen Ed kids did fine. (A grades) Grades still don’t really “count”, except some foreign language and Algebra and above math. PS, the HS honors classes aren’t as hard as they scare you that they are, for the most part. Maybe a little more work but worth the .5 gpa weighted bump. AP classes are where it starts to get hard, especially AP world history.
What is the deal with math? Did you feel you needed to supplement them for math 7 HN? The presentations all say that they will miss content if they go from math 6 GE to Math 7 HN and strongly discourage this.
I would guess it depends on how your kid does with math in 6th grade. If they found Gen Ed math easy and were bored, try Honors math and see how they do. The grades in MS do not matter, unless you take HS classes. If your child is struggling, they can drop to non-honors math. 7th Grade Honors Math means Algebra 1 in 8th grade and a different math track in high school, so take a look at that.
Thanks. I might have them go over the concepts we are told will be missed if they go from 6GE to 7HN. That said, my High school kid did 7GE in 7th and then Algebra HN in 8th. So, I know you can go from 7GE to either Algebra 1 or Algebra 1 HN. I don’t want them to be bored, but also don’t want to stress out. Will talk with her counselor. I did not find the 6th grade teacher for my older kid helpful for this back then, they weren’t familiar with 7GE vs 7HN.
