A HHI of $200K is maybe in the top 25% in the area, perhaps more. Average HHI in Montgomery and Fairfax is $80-$95K. You need roughly HHI of $500K to be in the top 1%. So, private schools have priced themselves out for upper middle class/lower upper class families. If private schools were able to control their expenses or program creep, the competition to get into these schools would increase dramatically.
HHI or $200K in the DC area will put you in the top 10%, not 25%. Wake up. People's perception of relative wealth, especially in the DC private school community, is seriously skewed. FWIW, our HHI is close to $250K and based upon the "Occupy Wall St." calculators, we are in the top 4% in the country. ($200K will put you at 94%.) DC is more expensive than most parts of the country, but a HHI of $200K will still likely land you in the top tenth regionally. To get back to OP, unless you have some seriously mitigating circumstances (e.g., medical expenditures), you will likely not be eligible for FA. There are a lot more people with a lot less wealth with equally deserving children who are entitled to the limited FA pool.
