Her assessment is at odds with the fact that immigrants are usually the very manifestation of the ideals that conservatives claim to subscribe to: the idea that the individual, by taking action, can improve the circumstances for him/herself and their family, to hold such a strong sense of optimism and bravery to move to a new country, rather than depend on whatever existing social support that they can eek out an existence through in their home country.

The reason Asian immigrants are Democrats is very simple: conservatives have not courted them, they have done a piss-poor job of advocating against the discrimination that Asians face. Instead, from the time someone like me becomes aware, I've been bombarded repeatedly by my teachers, and the media that Republicans are racists and are anti-immigrants, helped in no small part by people like Amy who hold an ignorant view of what motivates me as an Asian American.[/quote]
