I assigned a book in 6th grade and one of the 4 main characters was being bullied. There were two bad words in the book that were said during these events. Some students mentioned it to me and we discussed “real life” and events that occur even in school. They had all heard those words and worse with families and friends. They all loved the book, they empathized with the bullied character and how his friends were trying to support him…it’s realistic.[/quote]
