How important is NMSF in college admission?
Not very important, at most schools. It’s entirely based on your scores, which colleges will see anyway when you submit your application. As noted on this thread, some colleges give significant scholarships to NMSFs, so the status is obviously significant in that case. Other colleges like to highlight the number of NMSFs attending, so maybe it provides a small edge at those schools.
How important NMSF is in ivy leagues college admission (assuming you already have a good SAT/ACT score)?
I had two kids that were NMSF, excellent GPAs and activities including leadership. Rejected at all Ivies (well two waitlists that never moved). It’s not helpful if you’re white or Asian.
+1 White DD was a NMF/scholar and had a perfect SAT score on her only attempt. Perfect grades, great ECs, all the rest. Didn’t help with any Ivy admissions. I also don’t think a URM who is a NMSF will have any edge over an otherwise identical URM who has high Act and SAT scores but is not a NMSF.
If you don't mind me asking, where did she get in/end up? TIA.
