On the Parent Coalition twitter his wife company just got $1.6M from MCPS.
Thank you for this. I immediately discount any information that loony website whines about so now I think I'm satisfied with this appointment. If Parents' Coalition hates him, he must be OK.
Its a question of ethics.
Scott has ethics. Parents Coalition loses credibility when they make the assumption that his wife's ties to KID Museum means he won't have integrity. I believe at most his bias would relate to wanting a new superintendent who would support the kind of experiential learning KID Museum does to help kids develop hands-on learning and design thinking skills. I am a big fan of the KID Museum and my kids have taken classes through their home school and it got them so excited about things like inventing and using tools and the different ways people can use electricity to do cool stuff and that sort of thing. Scott and his wife are not getting rich from the project, of that I am sure, but Cara (who I also know personally) has spent years laboring to bring something to life that she thinks will make a difference in kids' lives and learning. She walks the walk. Also, Scott is smart and a parent and will bring a new perspective that's reasonable, and also get the rest of the board thinking in a much more nuanced way about school district issues. The Parents Coalition woman lost her credibility on this when she complains about things like Scott teaching students case studies or whatever about old superintendents. She clearly has no personal knowledge of the man or she would be pleased with the board's decision. He's just a good person and solidly nice guy who I'm willing to bet was hardly gunning to take on this role but was willing to contribute to his community because he could clearly see that the board is flailing and the school system has lost trust with parents.
