[quote=Anonymous]PP - I don't think most"of it is directed at the people gaming the system. The folks you are talking about certainly would be deserving of ire from everyone. That would be really understandable. But this board is littered with threads in which people have objected to FA for anyone. DCUM FA posts have included beauties about how anyone who legitimately needed financial aid should have just made better choices so they could pay 30K a year for their child to go to school. That certainly makes sense in response to the kind of ridiculous HHI 250K but wants FA post recently, but it just seems offensive and mean spirited when it is directed towards someone who is in a terrible public school system but has a kid whose potential would be tapped at a great school. It seems offensive to refer to FA recipients as "freeloaders" and then brag about how great the teachers and college placements are at X school when these "freeloaders" include some of those great teachers and kids who are standouts that land at great colleges. I don't resent my tuition dollars going towards FA either 22:15. I do resent some of the comments directed at those recipients on these boards and the assumption that most FA recipients are crooks or underqualified minorities. Neither of those groups seem to make up the majority of FA recipients (in my experience), yet it seems like the anti-FA crowd is always out in force to accuse people of being 1 or both of these things.
