You don't see any similarities? How about:

1) Both Rittenhouse and this guy had verbal altercations and displayed weapons;
2) Both Rittenhouse and this guy felt threatened by the person with whom they had an altercation;
3) Both Rittenhouse and this guy shot in self defense.

Of course there is one difference. This guy promptly called police and waited for them to arrive while Rittenhouse ran home to Illinois.

At a high enough level of generality, all altercations leading to violence are going to bear some similarity.  Before resorting to force, Rittenhouse was quite literally chased down by a violent lunatic who then lunged for his weapon.  This guy appears to have pulled a weapon and fired simply to resolve a confrontation in a grocery store.  The validity of his self-defense claim needs to be weighed against the facts, which are still largely unknown.  I'm not viewing this as a self-defense case just because he uttered the words "self defense" to the responding officers.[/quote]
