As we ponder retirement in the next decade, i'm increasingly taking environmental issues into account. We can really go anywhere, but will likely stick to the northeast or midwest. Factors I will look into, though, are the water source and availability, propensity to natural disasters, proximity to rural areas that we can access for organically farmed produce and ethically raised meat, community programs like composting. What else should we consider in terms of the environment?
100%. Not moving out west. The article in the Post today of the water shortages in parts of NoCAL are only a glimpse of what's coming, faster out west. We always wanted to move to the beach but we are no longer doing that. And I know a couple of people selling family beach homes before more effects of climate change are felt there and they can't offload it. Then: see Miami building collapse. So far, the Mid-Atlantic is where we are staying for now as we seem to be in a good spot (obv not perfect). If we do anything we'd prob move a bit further north.
