The new boundaries were approved today. https://go.boarddocs.com/mabe/mcpsmd/Board.nsf/files/C8UJQR4E0CE5/$file/Supp%20A%20Boundary%20Study%20Gaithersburg%20ES8%20211118.pdf
Cue the busing crank!
I think I am confused about the MS boundaries - page 6. It seems like the surrounding area of each MS is being sent to the other MS. Forest Oak MS is in the middle of the orange area, but the orange area is zoned for GMS. GMS is in the green area, but the surrounding area is zoned for Forest Oak MS. Am I reading that map right? If I am, that is super crazy, and I now agree with the anti-busing crowd.
Well, this really has nothing to do with busing, because both of these middle schools are in each other's walk zones. This is just the weirdness of having built two middle schools a mile apart from each other. And the neighborhoods around both schools can walk to either school. Also, this is actually an improvement on the existing FOMS boundaries, because the new ES area will be zoned there: https://gis.mcpsmd.org/ServiceAreaMaps/ForestOakMS.pdf
It is crazy to have the neighborhood literally right across the street from the MS walk or ride the bus to the other MS. That is so dumb. Top of sk2 area has to walk by FO to get to GMS. This is really absurd. I had defended MCPS/BOE on the previous boundary decisions, but this is stupid and crazy. And I'm starting to agree with the anti-busing people.
The FAA policy that MCPS sneakily passed is allowing for this type of nonsense to happen. Even the previous Superintendent said that passing the policy will have significant effects.
No, because the boundaries were like this long before that policy was passed.
