I also see random nasty posters in Diet & Exercise (ugh, those threads about "If you're a size 2, what is your height and weight?"), Beauty & Fashion (there are a lot of people there who think they're the new Joan Rivers or something, it is silly), and in any of the parenting forums. But the trigger point seems to be heterosexual women being competitive and mean about their marriages and their work/life balance. Nothing brings out the claws more.

I think it's because those are things a lot of women are dissatisfied with and feel insecure about and that tends to bring out nastiness.

I absolutely believe a lot of these posters are women (probably most) and they are saying what they actually think. I'm in my 40s and have known a lot of women. I've heard most of this stuff IRL in some way or another. Not slung as an insult to someones face, but a lot of women will make snide, dismissive, and judgmental comments about "types" of women, or about women they know but aren't close to. Again, it's insecurity and comes off that way, but often women share these insecurities and will gang up because it makes them feel more justified in their resentment/jealous/annoyance with the way some other woman is managing her marriage or kids or house or finances or whatever.[/quote]
