OP here. Thanks. Maybe we will look at Telluride but we have avoided because DH does not want to pay the premium over MSRP. The others we’ve seen and appreciate your comments. We also liked the Ascent but are worried about quality issues.
I agree don't pay the premium. Telluride/Palisade is nice at MSRP, but the entire value proposition falls apart at 5 to 10k over MSRP. It has also yet to be seen how Tellurides/Palisades hold up over a long period of time since they are so new. Highlander is a good choice, high reliability, retains value well. People keep them forever for a reason. It's a solid choice if you're looking for the long term. You are targeting the most in-demand segment of vehicles in the country (2-3 row SUVs) in the worst inventory shortage in modern history. I would expand your search to contact dealers up to ~4 hours drive from you. Still a few dealers out there willing to sell at ~MSRP, especially if you factory order through them and are willing to wait a few months for delivery.
+1 Regarding the Telluiride, DO.NOT. PAY.OVER.MSRP. You won’t get it below MSRP, but you can get it at sticker it you are willing to wait a few months. Find a dealership to test drive it, you’ll fall in love, then call Winchester Kia, Timbrook Kia (Cumberland, MD) and ask about ordering one. When you order one, you generally don’t pay over MSRP. The dealership may ask for a refundable deposit of 1k. The wait is about 4-6 months. Again, I absolutely love mine. I have a 2022 SX Nightfall edition with all the bells and whistles. I’ve talked about the Telluride here before, I mentioned how fun it was to drive and someone came back and said it was a “great people mover but not fun to drive” , I was like that’s a driver problem! I feel total exhilaration when driving mine.
How's the mileage? The Nightfall edition looks so sexy. It really is a nice car and all the trade reviews for the Telluride are full of praise. I really wish they had a hybrid version.
I’m not the best person to ask on this. I keep mine in “Sport” mode and when my kids aren’t in the car, my DH calls me Mrs. Jeff Gordon. From the Telluride forums I’m on, most folks say they average 26 to 28mpg in “Smart” mode with daily driving. I average 19-21mpg, but again, I have an extremely heavy foot.
