A huge factor hear is that some women who say "I get hit on a lot" tend to be women who perceive a lot of interactions as "being hit on" that some people might not. The two women I've known who genuinely got hit on everywhere they went had big boobs and tended to show them off -- low cut tanks, tight tees, etc. They weren't courting the attention -- they just had nice, big boobs and liked how the looked. But a lot of men see BOOBS and that's it for them. So this gets a lot of attention no matter what. I have known many other women who are like "omg I get hit on so much!" but then I'll be out with them and we'll order drinks from a bartender who is friendly but not overly so, and who does not ask them out or spend any more time talking to them than anyone else. And they'll be like "that bartender was so into me, oh my gosh should I give him my number?" It's funny. I'm not making fun -- I think that's a good attitude and a lot of confidence but that's not really what this means.
I completely know what you mean. My MIL is like this; she looks nice, aging gracefully with partially greying hair and decent body for her age (though she wears very age appropriate and more conservative styles). A car horn will honk across the street, clearly due to a traffic situation, and she'll look up and comment how men are always honking at her, we will go out to eat and a friendly 20 something waiter will ask how our day is going and she’ll roll her eyes once he’s gone and remark on how he is too friendly and she is not interested in dating him. It’s the funniest thing. On one hand, I am awed by her confidence level but I’m also a bit bemused at the pretty far fetched assumptions she makes.
