Having a party but inviting grandparents only and hiring a masked and covid-vaxxed entertainment person for my 2 kids (one is the birthday child). It will be the most stress-free party I've ever thrown and my kid can DEAL. he's getting a ton of presents. he will have a blast. PLEASE don't have parties and invite people outside your household. just don't.
Omg where do you live? I live in a very covid cautious area of DC/MD. Very. People have dr. Fauci signs in their yard and “I believe in science” etc etc. nobody seemed mad we didn’t have school for a year (though I was furious). And I’ve been to MUTIPLE outdoor parties at parks and splash pads and backyards thrown by these same people. There was a brief period in June when masks were not required (ah memories) but we even went to one yesterday. Covid is here to stay and we need to figure out how to live adequate lives. I guess a masked outdoor birthday party is adequate. Shunning childhood parties for years?! No. Hard no.
People pick and choose what is ok for them. COVID is here to stay because of behavior like you described. We COULD get this under control but individuals refuse. We had school, it just looked different last year.
Ugh, you really think outdoor masked parties (or unmasked when community spread was low) is what is prolonging the pandemic... Where's your data on that? I don't know one person who got Covid from an outdoor birthday party. At some point we need to think of the children's mental health. My kiddo with anxiety has been so much better since we started letting her go to outdoor birthday parties this summer and have some fun with friends.
