I was surprised when I heard from another CDS parent that several families (about 17) banded together and complained to the school that their Kindergarten program (unlike their Preschool program which is excellent!) was "not up to par" and did "not" prepare their children for (public) elementary school. The school seems to be making changes and hired a lot of new teachers this year, so I'm wondering if there was any truth to this?
Does anyone know if this actually occurred or when it occurred?
This did actually occur. A CDS board member and classroom teachers were in attendance. Though I believe the overwhelming complaint was more about communication and other varying concerns, like space issues.
Does anyone have thoughts on the impact of what happened a year ago (??) on the current kindergaten program? Trying to decide whether to send my preschooler to CDS KG.
What happened was the head of school was new, moved the program to accommodate renovations and a third kindergarten class. This upset the parents because they felt the had signed up for one program and then she delivered another. I will also say there was a lot of staff turnover, and not just in the kindergarten program. Some excellent teachers were unable to work with the new head and left. I think now that the renovations are over and the transition in management has smoothed out, the program is back up to par. Enrollment was down so much this year that they went back to two kindergarten classes, so if you are still considering it the ratios are great right now (7 kids per class!) no idea what it will be next year...
