FCCPS doesn’t offer busing to half the students. No one who lives within 1.5 miles gets a bus, and most parents end up driving their kids due to all the construction. It’s a shit show and no one in Central Office has a solution.
It is not 1.5 miles. And parents who are driving their kids to and from school every say are creating a generation of lazy entitled kids. They. Can. Walk.
I posted this and yes, the walk zone goes up to 1.5 miles. Maybe not where you live? My kids are within a mile and walk to school, so it’s not an issue for us but it is a real issue for plenty of kids/families. Typical FCC parent who can’t see beyond your own nose to how things could be different for someone else. 🙄
What street is 1.5 miles? I have a friend on Lee Street and they are right at the border of the walk zone, and it's 1.1 miles. That's a 15 minute walk. I'm sorry, I just don't think it's too much to ask a middle or high schooler to walk 15-20 minutes to school most days.
That's great for your friend! I'm not going to share specifics because I don't want to "out" anyone, but there are 100% families who don't get a bus and live between 1.1-1.5 miles from school in the neighborhoods south of Broad and no longer get a bus. Many of them.
Bus routes got adjusted back to normal, most kids will get bussed again. Also, the kiss n ride is super fast and easy, even with all the construction. They are a well oiled machine once school starts.
