What is THE quintessential Pittsburg food item? The equivalent of a Philly cheesesteak but for Pittsburgh? We are going to be driving through and have about two hours, so we’re going to get lunch.
I’d say that’s the wrong question. I grew up in Pittsburgh and gave lots of family still there. I can tell you we never go back to the chipped ham heated with Heinz ketchup sandwiches ever. (Although we’d never have anything but Heinz ketchup ever). This point is Pittsburgh’s reputation for food is new. NYT ranked it top for “youth-driven food boom” — It’s the newer places that are great.
