There are help wanted signs everywhere in DC. Companies are going to need to pay a fair wage and offer good working conditions if they want staff. There's no other way around it.
Where I live (not DC) restaurants are unable to hire people due to low wages, so they’ve taken to posting on social media and posting signs *inside the restaurant itself* that government needs to abolish social services so people will be forced to work at $2.13 an hour. Not surprisingly, it’s hurt their business. Which is probably good, since they don’t have any waitstaff anyway.
Exactly. The problem isnt that their business cant stay afloat without paying people pennies its that people are relying on social services, which is funny considering a lot of servers I used to know were eligible for social services like Medicaid, WIC/SNAP, daycare vouchers, etc. Trust me taxpayers end up paying for the low wage jobs anyways.
We pay regardless of whether they work or not apparently.
...you got that out of the above statement? Not that we pay because companies arent required to pay a living wage? Payment with a child has to offset the costs of daycare otherwise you are paying to work.
