Nobility doesn't have ranks that are as strictly defined as in the military, so there is room for difference in relative power. Some dukes, for example, might be far more powerful than other dukes. A prince is typically the son of a king. The crown prince would be the one who is in line to inherit the throne, however that is determined. A duke is a noble who is beneath the king and who controls a duchy. Typically you would expect the son of a king to be considered above a duke, but that is not necessarily the case. The answer would depend on the kingdom and the time period you're talking about, as well as the particular duke.[/quote]
