I left Reiter Hill right before getting pregnant. I liked the downtown location for my annual check-ups, but once I started going to the Friendship Heights location, I was put off by the nurses, front desk, and billing. They also switched communication systems/portal, which was a pain, especially requiring pre-payment before checking in, without first confirming insurance deductibles/copays, resulting in overcharges that took forever to refund. I never had an issue with the RH doctors though. I switched to Bloom for my pregnancy and have yet to deliver, but the experience had been good. I will say, that as a FTM, the doctors and nurse practitioners are not exactly brimming with intel on what to expect. If you don’t ask, they don’t offer. For example, I had no idea what OTC meds were okay, had to ask for recommendations on classes/books to prepare for labor, diet recommendations, etc. (Bloom offers a pregnancy nutrition class, but charges over $50 for it, which seems a bit ridiculous/unhelpful). I found my pre-conception appointment with Dr Johnson at Reiter Hill MUCH more informative than anything Bloom has told me regarding pregnancy rules and expectations. All that said, the office location is convenient with ample street parking, delivers at Sibley (which I wanted), and the doctors have been helpful and professional with me. They always follow up timely with emails and calls. Just as a FTM, be prepared to do your own research on pregnancy/birth and don’t be shy to ask questions.
I think this is pretty common, unfortunately.
