I know that this thread is old, but we (husband and two kids) bought in Greenwich this fall/winter and have really liked it thus far. We're in Old Greenwich near the train station. It's very walkable and there is a great downtown. It's a small town feel and we love that we are really close to the water and have access through the beach at Tod's Point. One thing that was important to me was being near water/train/downtown. You can't get that in Westport, where the downtown is not near the beach and the train station is not within walking distance of the beach and downtown. The taxes are also way better than Larchmont (you pay more for your house, but less in taxes) and slightly better than Westport. Also, Greenwich has better schools than Larchmont if you want to go the public school route. If you want to go the private school route, it's more justifiable because the taxes are lower and the town has a lot of great private schools and is not too far from Rye Country Day. I was a little scared that everyone here would be snobby and that our daughter would feel poor when she got older, because our house is only $1.5M and we drive Hondas. And she might, but that would probably be the case no matter where we lived in this area.
That's exactly where I grew up. My dad walked to Old Greenwich train station every morning. And they drove a Toyota Corolla and no one cared. When I got to Greenwich High, there were kids who drove old BMWs, station wagons, family cars as well as flashy new cars. And I took the bus.
