Hi - my son is off to middle school next year and I'd like to give him my iPhone when he turns 12 next month (and upgrade for me). Is there a way to restrict everything but texting and calling? Not really comfortable with such ready access to internet and such until he's a little older. 12 just seems still too young for that... I thought about a flip phone for him since I'm really only comfortable with giving him access to text and call his friends, but I also want to be able to "track" him. I put track in quotes because I know I could only see where the phone is. TIA
I do this! Go into: - Settings - Screen Time - Content and Privacy Restrictions - Allowed Apps - Then turn off Safari, Mail and anything else you want to In Screen Time you can also set Downtime so that the phone basically does nothing after a certain time. You can even restrict that they can't change the time which would enable them to bypass the Downtime restrictions. Google is my best friend when it came to this stuff. All the kids have iPhones. Even if it does nothing, your child will feel like he/she "fits in" with a phone that everyone else has. I did this and it works! Apple has great features to restrict usage. I also purchased the Verizon Family feature but decided it wasn't needed because Apple has enough features for restrictions.
