No one knows exactly what they will be using to decide sophomore admissions. But if your grades are half decent, I’d say you have a pretty good shot. Here’s the CRAZY thing that no one has been talking about. There are almost 100 (100!!!!!) slots open in the rising sophomore class. I’m guessing that VERY few applied or even knew that you COULD apply as a sophomore. Its bizarre after all of the hand wringing with the freshman process, but those who applied will likely have very little competition.
Where are you getting that number?
NP. There are currently about 450 freshman at TJ. The SB increased the class size to 550. 550 - 450 = 100 open slots. Unless they are planning to not fill up the sophomore class? Which would be a waste to not offer a TJ education to 100 additional kids when there is room for that many new students.
Maybe check the website first next time: The number of students who can be accepted to the sophomore class is based in part on student attritionStudents cheering at TJHSST. In recent years, the number of admitted sophomores has ranged between 5 to 15 students. The sophomore admissions process is completed in its entirety in June each year. The TJHSST Admissions Office administers all aspects of the sophomore admissions process. Students may only apply to the Sophomore Round Class of 2024 if their school division has not exceeded its attendance cap for the 10th grade. (quote from the website)
How many people are applying?
