I don't care how late he is to this bandwagon - he's the only one that can likely make it happen. Silberberg would have zero ideas on how to navigate this mess, regardless of her position on the issue.
The mayor cannot direct the SB to open the schools. It is irrelevant who holds that position if your concern is their impact on schools reopening.
He can indirectly make it very difficult to keep the schools closed. He can speak to the press, he can talk about this to the public, he can force parts of it through the budget process. He can bring in statewide voices and resources. Anyone with a large enough microphone and a plan can indirectly compel the schools to open. I don't know whether or not he'll do this - but to say he's powerless isn't true... which is also why it's maddening he hasn't spoken up before now.
Wilson did not support opening the ACPS, he was very rude to several people re the Open ACPS movement, now he's singing a different tune and trying to paint himself as a champion of all public school students. I can't even with him. It's unconscionable how he has behaved, how his supporters badmouthed people, stole signs, just went on a huge campaign that we all have to trust the health department and school board. etc. He didn't care. I have zero trust in anything he says. He is solely motivated in getting re-elected and anything that is a stepping stone to running for Congress.
