This argument is so disingenuous.  The so-called “responsible breeders” have produced a population of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels that are commonly prone to a huge list of genetic diseases, including heart failure. The “responsible breeders” could breed those diseases out of the population, but they don’t. I think cavaliers are wonderful dogs, but I’m not paying a fortune for a “pure bred” dog that will die young. Varying the gene pool can only improve the genetics of a part-cavalier puppy. Same with German Shepards. The “breed standard” calls for a hind leg that is as close to possible to a 90 degree angle, so now most look deformed and the breed has significant hip issues. These breeds are a mess because these breeders place the “purity” of the dogs’ bloodline and the “breed standard” above the health of the puppies, every day. They are not any better than puppy mills, they’re just bigger snobs. [/quote]
