Is anyone surprised? In 2018, he skipped the Council's vote on the city's annual budget -- which is more or less the most crucial vote of the year -- to go to Cabo. https://twitter.com/AndrewGiambrone/status/996475251629445125?s=19 Dedicated public servant right there.
So how did he get elected? Did no one qualify challenge him in Ward 8?
No one serious, no. No one serious challenged Bowser, Allen and Nadeau either and here we are with a deer-in-headlights mayor in a time or crisis and a comic-book council.
Mayor Bowser did an excellent job fighting for the city mid-pandemic against Trump. I have no qualms with what she's done. Vaccine distribution was slow but its been slow nationwide until Biden put the pedal to the gas. My experience - People don't talk about it but D.C. also handled Covid incredibly well. There are 10 testing centers within 5 miles of my home and at least 3 within walking distance. All free. All well done. Vaccine distribution. Food distribution for the needy. Homeless put in hotels. Daily press briefings at the height. The city and the mayor cares about the residents and that's never been clearer (at least to me) than in this pandemic.
DC had and has good testing, yes, but that only goes so far. Bowser kept indoor dining and drinking open in the fall despite nearly every scientist screaming that it should be shut down. The piddling three-week holiday closure was too little too late, as cases spiked here as they did everywhere else. She's now deciding to pick petty fights with the feds over data reporting instead of getting shots in arms, because to her perception far outweighs production. Sorry, her performance has been mostly indefensible.
