She's self-conscious about her height, maybe because she just happens to have tall friends. She's also feeling it in the field now, she just can't run as fast as her taller teammates. She's only 5 feet now, she's the shortest in her team, shortest of all the cousins the same age, the shortest girl her age in her neighborhood group, etc. She asks me about it all the time. I always tell her it's perfectly fine to be petite. I'm just hoping she gets to grow a few more inches.
I haven't read all the replies, but you need to not feed into the idea that she is weaker or slower because she's shorter. I have a 17.5-year-old DD who's been 5 feet tall since she was 13, so I think she's done growing. She's also on the varsity track team at high school and is the fastest runner on her HS soccer team-- faster than girls who are far taller.
I have read all the replies. My 11th grade DD hasn't even broken 5' yet (and likely won't) yet she's been on the varsity track team since 9th grade and on varsity softball since 10th grade. She's one of the fastest girls on the track team and is THE fastest on the softball team. She never gets to play 1st base unless it's a blow out but she's the premier CFer. Comparison is the thief of joy.
