I'm not understand how people "use instagram instead." They don't seem like the same type of thing at all. For example, I have a board for "books I want to read" and I pin the link of each book to it on Amazon. If I wanted, I could even do separate sections for different genres; like a "historical fiction" section and a "mystery" section, etc. When I know I'll be taking a trip somewhere, I'll usually create a pinterest board for it. I will pin things like possible lodging ideas, specific sites or museums, restaurants, links to articles, etc. I can do separate sections for different cities--for example if I am going to Spain I might have a "Seville" section and a "Barcelona" section, etc. How would Instagram work in doing those things?
This is one of my favorite features on Pinterest. I do the same thing, and have sections not only for trips I'm planning but just for trip ideas for the vague future. It's particularly useful for finding ideas for traveling with kids. One of the first things I do when we start planning a trip is go on Pinterest and search "[destination]+with young kids" and pin anything that looks relevant. Then when I'm planning the itinerary, I can go through these links and collect ideas for destination, sample day trips, advice on getting from place to place, etc. It's been a life saver, especially for international travel. I've even found specific, family-friendly AirBnBs this way. And the travel section of Pinterest has also been a good outlet during Covid. When I get down from being cooped up at home, I go look at my boards and start thinking about future trips. Both close, car trips that are Covid-friendly that we are going to take this year, and also trips for next year or the following year that we will make when it's safe. It helps me feel less trapped.
