CDS K parent here. Is it a fair assumption that the kids in K at CDS are not intent on applying to 1st grade? I have concerns about how well prepared my DC will be for 1st, though it seems obvious that the school as a whole is ramping things up. All this aside, we had no intention of repeating K. Are we in the wrong place???
Long time CDS parent here who has sent two children to K there. Both went to 1st grade the next year. Both were fluent readers, but the more important thing was that both had learned how to be cooperative, respectful of others, and kind to their friends. My dd is an August birthday, and when we applied out of CDS, we left it up to those schools to decide whether she should repeat K or not. We applied to three. All agreed she was academically ready. One thought it would be harder to start at their school because the kids had already been together a year. The people who thought their children weren't adequately prepared were - in my humble opinion only - the parents who were focused on academic achievement as important in K. CDS will tell you that their approach is developmental. They will not push the kids to read if they are not ready - and that is just fine.
