I have some loose cotton pants with pockets that I prefer. That said I would not think twice if I saw someone wearing jeans on a hike - who cares? As long as you can move, you're fine. Obv if you're going to get wet on the hike you don't want to be in jeans or cotton - but some 10 mile day hike? Feh. WHo cares what you wear. I wore cotton cords to walk 50k in one day once.
