Highly competitive colleges have shown a clear trend away from the old days of advantaging NE/Mid-Atlantic prep school kids and have moved toward focusing on racial/economic/geographic diversity. The only down side for them was the danger of reporting lower average test scores for admitted classes (the result of not focusing on kids who have had private test tutors and taken the test three times). Going test optional removes that complication, and lets them engineer admissions to their heart’s content. A 4.0 gpa kid from South Dakota is golden, even better if first-gen college or Native American. [/quote]
