Could this partially explain the disproportionate impact the disease is having on AA? Or are we not allowed to talk about that?
Of course as long as you consider other factors as well-SES, employment, gender, age, etc.........
What’s SES, age, gender have to do with wearing a mask properly?
There are good arguments to be made that those factors MIGHT impact “correct” mask wearing in systematic ways, so if Wards are going to be looked at as meaningful entities, other factors need to be looked at and possibly controlled for as well. As a made up example: let’s say that males between 13 and 35 are less likely to wear masks correctly, while females over 35 are much more likely to wear masks correctly. If the sample from Group A included 75% males between 13 and 35 and Group B included 75% females over 35, any conclusions drawn from the data might strongly reflect the impact of age x gender — rather than geographic location. Similarly, SES might account for things like access to masks, types of employment, tendency for the observers to document “correctness”.... stuff like that. If you’re going to do a study and release the data, it would be useful to have the kind of information that would contribute to being able to understand the data in meaningful ways. If the goal is “correct” mask wearing, for example, it could be important to know that everyone is on the same page with what that means and has access to masks. It could also be helpful to know if the observations were consistent. So, were all observations made in supermarkets — where more people might be trying to wear masks in ways that they believed were “correct”? Were observations made at Metro stations — where huge swaths of the population might NOT be observed if they had access to safer transportation options. Stuff like that? A critical point is access to masks that have been found to be safe. Since we’re on our own with regard to this, whatever “correct” mask wearing means should be understood in this context.
