Yu ying is now a mostly white and asian school. Was majority african american, but no longer the case with lower grades. Yu Ying "tracks" underachieving students into non-immersion track to "catch up" for the standardized tests. All kids in the "catch-up" track are African American. They have essentially figured out a way to track the underperforming black kids away from the white and Asian middle class kids.
I am a parent in one of the top two grades. This is so insulting on many levels--including to other African American parents who have very high achieving kids in the top two grades. There are still more African American children that are still in the immersion model than their are white and Asian students in the top two classes. My child's regular immersion class is majority AA. The person who posted what I quoted above obviously doesn't have any first hand knowledge of the actual make up of the top two classes or he/she would know they are still majority AA and the school does not have black children that have not been "tracked" away from white and Asian middle class kids. Really, the false information on this Board is stunning.
