Height matters a lot.  If he's really into it, maybe see if you can find a used set, but if the hand-me-downs are working, I'd hold off on a new set and let him grow some more.  [/quote]

Are there factors other than height that would go into it?  The cousin whose clubs he's using was about the same height when she used them, and my guess is that they're pretty high quality since she was a very good player by that point.  I think it's too early know if this is going to stick as an interest.  We aren't doing indoor or team sports, and so golf isn't competing against the sports he'd usually be playing.
