What if the person decided to take a break to travel? Would the approach be the same?
No, because this purely for your own pleasure and benefit. Staying home with my child when she was young wasn't for my pleasure or benefit; it was because we lived in Florida and the daycare centers in our area were terrible. We moved there when I was 7 months pregnant, so I wouldn't have gotten hired anywhere anyway and once she was born and we looked into daycares, I knew I couldn't send her to any of the ones in our area and feel secure with her there. She's two now, we live here where the daycares are much better, and I'd like to go back to work as I always intended. I stayed home for HER benefit, not mine, and more out of necessity than choice. If I took two years off to go "find myself" in India or whatever, it would be totally different.
