You need a glass top. If you like a wood table, have a glass top made. It’s do easy to clean with sponges or spray cleaner. I have a wood table in the DR but use a table cloth if my toddler eats there A non glass table is not going to last more than a year or two with kids.
My table - a fairly ordinary solid maple (not veneer) from Macy's in 1998 is still going strong after 22 years of daily use, holidays, parties, and 2 kids (now teens). I think the key is having solid hardwood (not veneer), with a smooth surface. Spills wipe right up. Cup rings disappear after a day or so. Paint, nailpolish, etc., come up with a gentle scrub w/ a magic eraser.
