I'm very annoyed that I wasted so much time on this fake offer because I didn't think a "virtual only" offer could be a thing, like many of the replies here. That said, I feel uncomfortable naming the school. I guess it is easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission?
What is in it for the school to do this. Makes no sense.
They get more money if more kids are enrolled on count day, and it's not that hard to do virtual programming for one extra kid. But having an appropriately-spaced desk might be harder. I guess. I don't know. I'm not convinced that OP understood what the school told her--perhaps they meant it's a virtual-only offer meaning that nobody at the school is going in person right now, or that only a small number of kids with IEPs/at-risk are doing in-person so her kid wouldn't qualify? But when everyone went back I'd think her kid would too. Or maybe the school had families decide already whether they were going to be in school as much as possible or fully remote all year, and one of the remote families left so OP would be filling that slot, but next year if everyone's back her kid can go. That makes a lot more sense than "you only have a slot while we're remote and then you have to go back to your IB school."
